Enjoy Your Grill All Summer in Your Culinary Man Cave

Culinary man cave

Spring is finally here, so it’s time to spend much more time outside, using the grill and hanging with family. But why should you choose between your man cave and fresh air? Make your man cave in the back yard for the best of both worlds! Spending time with family and friends while kicked back in your own outdoor kitchen is a summertime pleasure.

The kitchen is a family room, but it often gets too hot and stuffy in the summer while all of the fun is in the back yard. Creating a man cave for those months when it is just too stunning outside to stay indoors can be easy and affordable with a little imagination.

Tips For Creating Your Own Outdoor Culinary Man Cave

  • Think outside the box. Because you are actually outside of the confines of the house with walls and doors to restrict placement, you do not need to make your outdoor kitchen exactly like you would indoors. Think about how the space will be used, and place each and every element where you will use them. Consider the sunset, where the kids will be playing, where the football game will be playing and set up the gas grill and work space according to your own needs.
  • Choose a grill that suits your culinary style. Do you like the taste of flame licked meat? Or do you prefer a slower cooked smoked brisket? Each of these delicious flavors comes from different cooking techniques; not all grills are created equal, so be sure to get the perfect one for your needs.
  • Technology is key for enjoying your time in your outdoor man cave. Weather-proof materials and LED lighting will make the time spent cooking more comfortable and efficient. Indoor conveniences such as a refrigerator and fan are made to tolerate outside conditions as long as they are protected from direct rain. The most important bit of technology for an outdoor man cave is a large television to watch the game on. Today, televisions are made to tolerate the temperature extremes of outdoors, but they must be kept from rain and direct sun rays.
  • Add accessories such as heaters or fire pits, and wind blocks to enable outdoor use of your culinary man cave in the harsher months.

Picture this: you are standing at the grill surrounded by all the conveniences of a kitchen, with your kids running in the grass, and the game on in the background. Everyone is enjoying the weather, and you are surrounded by family and friends, while still enjoying the game outside the confines your den. What are you waiting for? Can you smell the BBQ already?

Head on over to to find exactly what you need to turn your outdoor man cave into a reality! Don’t forget that you can call us 24/7 at 877-669-4669.

Building the Perfect Patio Grilling Station

Grilling Station

This year, instead of wheeling that rusty old grill out of the garage every time you want to entertain, create a grilling station on your patio. You’ll be at the center of the food and activities at every backyard party. The best part is you’ll have everything you need right there to create your favorite dishes without running back and forth to the house.

Build Around a Grill Island

Your grilling station will center around the grill island: your primary preparation station. Start your project by looking over the options you have for a grill island. GasGrillsNow has a variety of styles and designs – from a simple grill and counter to an entire kitchenette with sink, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Your choice depends on budget, how often you’ll use it, and how independent you want to be of the main house.

Allow for Plenty of Workspace

You’ll want at least a couple of countertops to work on. This lets you spread out your ingredients and supplies and assemble your dishes next to the grill. You’ll no longer have to do this in the kitchen and bring out large platters of items ready for the grill. You’ll enjoy being out with the party while you work your grilling magic. People will get a thrill out of watching the master grill chef in action.

Supplies in Reach

Make or buy storage to hold all of your grilling tools, knives, and serving tools. Find waterproof storage to hold all of your rubs and spices. You’ll want everything in reach to save on trips back to the house. Make sure the storage locks so you can keep your supplies at your grilling station throughout the summer.

Places for People

One of your work counters can double as a bar where people can sit, eat, or drink. Find some tall stools that you can leave out in the weather to go around the counter.

Consider a firepit near the grilling station. Surround it with a stone wall that people can sit on, or put benches out that people can move around as needed.

The right grilling station design will give people the chance to sample a grilled summer feast while mingling with friends and family. You’ll know you’ve got it right when people ask you as they leave “When are you having your next party?”

Preparing Your Outdoor Kitchen for Snowy Weather

outdoor kitchen

Settling in for the winter months involves preparing your summer-friendly spaces for the long, hard freeze. When it comes to your outdoor kitchen, there are several things to consider. Start by making a list of the furnishings and equipment you have out there. Determine your needs based on typical weather conditions during the winter season, and then you are set to prep.

If you have wood furniture that has been treated for weathering, you might be okay with leaving this out in the elements. Some woods are naturally more capable of surviving the changes of weather, such as teak. Metal furniture is typically an ideal candidate for cold temperatures, but lightweight wicker models can buckle under snow or ice so these should be moved to safer ground indoors. As for your cushions and rugs, bring those indoors even if they are marked weather resistant to save yourself the struggle of cleaning these in the spring.

Every outdoor kitchen has some sort of cooking appliance. If you have a rolling cart featuring a grill or stove, move it under shelter after you have disconnected all gas and electrical features. Clean the surface area of the cooking unit thoroughly to prepare it for use again in the spring. Remove all foods from your outdoor bar or refrigerator, and take any utensils indoors for safe keeping. If you have a fire pit, cover it using a heavy metal or wood panel. Secure this with nails, screws, or a heavy object to prevent animals from burrowing in the pit through winter.

Use in the Winter

If you are planning to use your kitchen space for winter, invest in a gas patio heater that will keep guests warm and comfortable. While cooking may not be suitable, you can create a lounge area using candles and other lighting for ambiance. Use of pillows and blankets is perfect for snuggling in the cool weather, but remember to take these indoors after they are used to prevent nesting of rodents.

Cooler Weather, Whatever! Host a Senstational Backyard Cookout Anytime of Year

The cold weather has arrived and you want to host an outdoor gathering, so now what? You could plan to run continually from the warmth of your home out into the chilly weather every few minutes to tend the grill, or you could transform your backyard into a year-round entertainment showplace.

Bring the Kitchen Outdoors – Including the Kitchen Sink!

Yes, you can bring it all outdoors with a spectacular outdoor grill and kitchen island, which can even include a working sink. Beyond generous countertop space and a top-of-the-line grill, today’s outdoor kitchens are all-encompassing and can be fully customized to your desires. Some of our most popular models include refrigerators, dual side burners, kegerators, trash chutes, and warming drawers to keep your food warm and at a safe temperature for consumption. Stock your kitchen, add food and people, and let the fun begin!

Putting Some Warmth and Light on the Situation

Tabletop and freestanding outdoor patio heaters make celebrating al fresco pleasant most any time of year. Not only do they keep guests cozy, but they also add a nice ambiance to any gathering. With propane, infrared, and natural gas outdoor patio heater options, there’s a model to fit most budgets and space constraints.

One of the most luxurious touches you can add to your outdoor kitchen and entertainment area is a decadent outdoor fire pit. Guests can enjoy appetizers and cocktails by the fire over scintillating conversations, or the kids can have a blast making s’mores for dessert! If you’re a DIY enthusiast, constructing a backyard fire pit is a fantastic weekender project.

Finishing Touches for a Successful Outdoor Fall/Winter Gathering

Keep the palates of your guests warm by incorporating warm cider, from-scratch cocoa, gourmet coffees, or spicy red wines into the beverage menu. You’ll also want to plan ahead for inclement weather, so be certain to have a space for guests to seek respite if the sky falls out with a thunderstorm. With this possibility in mind, keep your outdoor decor simplistic. After all, your sparkling outdoor kitchen island, warming patio heaters, and luxurious outdoor fireplace from Gas Grills Now are decoration enough.

What Does An Outdoor Kitchen Island Kit Contain?

Outdoor kitchen island kits may include any number of appliances for outdoor cooking and entertaining. Some kits include a simple grill and refrigerator, while others contain many kitchen gadgets. Different materials may be available for the base as well, allowing you to choose colors best suited to your backyard.

The most basic element included in an outdoor kitchen island kit is a grill. Stainless steel is a common material used for grills, but others, such as wrought iron, may be available as well. The dimensions and special features of the grill also vary. A refrigerator for an outdoor kitchen island, when included in the kit, often matches the grill. Islands with stainless steel grills, for instance, may have stainless steel front panel refrigerators.

Other cooking surfaces available in outdoor kitchen islands include griddles, ovens, side burners, and even open fire pits. The size and number of additional cooking surfaces may vary considerably. For example, a kit may include one large oven, a smaller oven, and a single griddle, while some other outdoor kitchen island kits could contain one large griddle with no other cooking elements but the grill. All griddles, burners, and ovens included in a kit usually match the grill’s look as well.

Many kits contain kitchen amenities that could make your outdoor grilling experience easier. Small sinks for washing grill utensils and built-in trash receptacles, for example, are common elements for an outdoor kitchen island. Large counter tops for preparing food and under-counter storage cupboards are often available as well. Other items, such as ice makers, beer taps, and countertops tall enough to serve as a bar, could be useful for entertaining guests.

An outdoor kitchen island kit may have a base made from a number of materials to perfectly suit your outdoor area. Brick, granite, stone, and stucco are common materials and offer a rustic charm. Even marble may be utilized for a strong and beautiful island base. Other materials might be available for certain areas within the kitchen island. For instance, a kit might include porcelain tile countertops for an indoor kitchen look.

The shapes of island bases might also vary from simple rectangles and L-shapes to more complex designs. Size is also a consideration. Some kits have bases that are compact enough to fit in a small corner of the backyard, while others could cover a massive area with plenty of countertops and gadgets.

How Can I Turn My Outdoor Grill Island into a Smoker?

For savory meat straight from the grill, nothing beats a smoker. Great grill recipes often require a smoker to bring out the best flavor in meat and fish. There are several free-standing appliances available to great grill gourmands. But why purchase a new appliance when you can easily adapt your grill island to smoke your meat for you?

Turning your grill into a smoker is easy. You’ll just need to purchase the right smoker box. A smoker box is a fireproof tin designed to create the smoke you’ll need to season your meat. All you’ll need to do is to fill the box with the wet wood chips of your choice – like mesquite, apple, and oak. Once the box is full, you will place the box just under the grill rack, against the strongest heat source of the grill. Once smoke begins to filter out of the box, your grill is ready, and you can begin smoking.

If you’re just starting out as a novice smoker, it’s best to start small. You may want to try our Bull Smoker box first. This box is small enough to use easily on most grills. The smoke output isn’t enough to flavor a large amount of meat. But it will give you a chance to test out smoking without investing in larger equipment.

For more advanced smokers, try the Fire Magic Grill smoker box or the American Outdoor Grill Smoker Box. Both boxes have more space for wood chips, so you can smoke a larger amount of meat. And both models have adjustable vents. This means you can control the amount of smoke the meat gets at any point in the cooking process.

If you smoke large amounts of meat, and need the most smoke possible, check out the Crown Verity Smoker box. Nothing holds more woodchips than this model. This model had enough space to evenly smoke and entire grill full of meat, and fits easily on most gas and electric grills.

No matter if you’re just getting started or looking to smoke an entire turkey, investing in a smoker box is a wise decision. It’s a little amount of effort for a flavorful payoff. So get ready to bring new life to your barbeque pork recipe. Get ready to add a richer flavor to chicken or fish. Either way, a smoker box will get you there.

Gas, Electric, or Charcoal: Which is the Best for My New Island?

So you’ve decided to get a new grill island… and a new grill to go along with it. But what type of grill is best? Even after using a particular grill for years, you may be interested in seeing what else is out there. Each of the three grills types have their strengths. So let’s go over the difference between gas grills, electric grills, and charcoal grills.

Gas: Gas is a cleaner and more versatile heat. You can control the heat output of Gas far better than Electric or Charcoal. And you can funnel Gas through a number of different accessories, like side burners and griddles. Gas heat is stronger than Electric heat. But like Electric grills, Gas leaves no discernible taste in the food it cooks. Gas also lights quickly, and the propane tanks which fuel most Gas grills are inexpensive. People who love a good smoky barbeque may not be fans of Gas grills. But Gas is the grill most frequently used by gourmet chefs and amateur grill masters alike.

Electric:  Electric brings all the great tastes of the grill, without the plumes of smoke. An Electric grill is clean, efficient, and ready to go as soon as you plug it in. Electric can come in small table top models, or big stand alone models.  Like Gas, an Electric grill can use its primary power source to power accessories and attachments. These Electric attachments help you cook your food using a number of different styles. Electric is very adaptable, and the control over the heat itself is excellent. But it may cook the food a little too cleanly for those who love their meat with a nice smoky flavor. And while an electric grill can get hot, it doesn’t get as hot as other grills.

Charcoal: Charcoal is a great overall grill. It gives meat a delicious smoky taste, and it’s one of the most adaptable styles around. With a Charcoal grill, you can use charcoal, charcoal with wood chips, or wood alone to cook your food. Charcoal allows you to get hands on with your meat because you are hands on with the fire itself.  And a Charcoal grill is the easiest to set up because it is not dependent on a source of gas or electricity. But unlike Gas or Electric, the temperature for a Charcoal grill can be sporadic. A Charcoal grill must be monitored carefully in order for the food to cook properly.  Depending on the cook, this can be a plus or a minus.
