| Just in case you are not familiar with us, the
company began as a family business in 1932 as
Chicago Combustion Corp. The founder, Louis
McGlaughlin, introduced the first gas-fired
broiler at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York.
These first commercial units added a unique
charcoal flavor to restaurant cooking and became
the platform for the outdoor gas-fired barbecue
grill.
Louis’ son, Don, Sr., pioneered the outdoor
gas-fired grill design in 1954. He was the first to
adapt the use of a plumber’s 20 lb. propane
cylinder to an outdoor gas-fired barbecue. The
first portable and stationary gas barbecues for
outdoor residential use were made by the
Chicago Combustion Corporation in 1955 and
1956. In the sixties, sales of outdoor gas barbecues
took off in a big way. During this expansion
period, the company was producing as many as
35,000 gas barbecues per year in the factory in
Belvidere, NJ. Eventually, the company name
was changed to Lazy Man, Inc.
With more than 70 years experience and
three generations of family ownership, the
company has used various components to manufacture
gas barbecues that would be hot enough
to cook properly, yet endured the rigors of the
outdoor environment. “It has always been our
desire to manufacture gas-fired barbecues that
would stand the test of time and set us apart from
the competition,” comments current president G.
D. “Mac” McGlaughlin, Jr. “We are the oldest
manufacturer of barbecues and some say, one of
the best-kept secrets in the industry.”
Our design and manufacturing have
contributed many successful products in the
hotly competitive barbecue market. The
Masterpiece Series pages provide a concise
review of the suggested possibilities of stainless
steel mobile and built-in residential gas barbecues.
All Lazy Man units may be used on a
mobile base or as a built-in. The next section
examines the Model A Series and Country
Club Series barbecues that are used extensively
in commercial and residential applications. The
Model Aunits drop in, or slide in, masonry openings.
The SS version Model A’s are for installation
on masonry or fireproof counter tops. The
Country Club models and all Stainless Steel
Elite barbecues are mobile units constructed
with bases on wheels or casters.
Our compact model barbecues, the Minute
Glow Series, are ideal for residential use and
available in total stainless steel mobile or built-in
models. We also offer Oasis refrigerators
and beer taps. |
